5.4 OPERATING FEATURES
Your pro
g
rammable power supply is equipped with a GPIB interface, which
conforms to the IEEE-488.2 standard and the SCPI protocol (Standard
Commands for Pro
g
rammable Instruments). The power supply can be
pro
g
rammed to operate in a remotely controlled instrumentation system via the
GPIB.
You can use each output channel of the power supply as a constant volta
g
e
source (CV mode), as a constant current source (CC mode), or as a constant
current sink (PM283x only). There are three instrument types available:
•sin
g
le output channel power supply
dual output channel power supply
triple output channel power supply
A channel can have various output volta
g
e and output current ratin
g
s.
The operatin
g
structure and operatin
g
principles are identical for each instrument
type and for each output channel.
The followin
g
features have been implemented in each power supply:
Power on self-test and dia
g
nostics routines.
Readback capability of the measured volta
g
e and current of each output
channel.
Each output channel offers the ability to sense locally or remotely. For remote
sensin
g
, the sense terminals (+S and -S) must be connected to the load
instead of the +V and -V output terminals; then the pro
g
rammed volta
g
e (V
set
)
is
g
uaranteed to be across the load, in spite of the volta
g
e drop in the wires to
the load.
A nonvolatile memory (battery backed up). This enables you to:
- store and recall volta
g
e and current settin
g
s of all output channels
(refer to section 5.5.4 "Store/Recall function")
- save and recall the front panel settin
g
s (refer to the common
commands
*
SAV and
*
RCL).
In this way, stored settin
g
s can be recalled, even after a lon
g
period of power
off.
