Assigningthe characterdata
Now,wecalculatetheverticalnumericalvaluesofthecolumnsofdots,and
enterthemunderneaththegrid.Eachverticalcolumn(whichhasamaximum
of 24 dots) is first divided into three groups (or two groups for super/
subscripts)ofeightdots.Eachgroupofeightdotsis~presentedbyonebyte,
whichconsistsofeightbits.
Thisiswherethenumbersdowntheleftsideofthegridcomein.Noticethat
thereis a numberfor each row of dots and that each numberis twicethe
numberbelowit. Bymakingthesenumberspowersoftwowecantakeany
combinationofdotsin a verticalcolumnand assignthema uniquevalue.
