Hardware Overview
This chapter describes the front panel and rear panel of the switch and shows you how to make
the hardware connections.
3.1 Front Panel Connection
The figure below shows the front panel of the switch.

CONSOLE Only connect this port if you want to configure the switch using the command line
interface (CLI) via the console port.
Eight 10/100
Mbps RJ-45
Ethernet Ports
Connect these ports to a computer, a hub, an Ethernet switch or router.
Gigabit
Ethernet/ mini-
GBIC port
This is not available on ES-2108.
Connect this Gigabit Ethernet port to high-bandwidth backbone network Ethernet
switches.
Alternatively, use a mini-GBIC transceiver in this slot for fiber-optical connections to
backbone Ethernet switches
