3 Do one of the following, depending on the
transceiver that you are using:
■
Side tabs
— Compress the side tabs and gently
slide the transceiver into the GBIC port until it
clicks into place.
OR
■
Front lever
— Move the front lever to the upright
position and gently slide the transceiver into the
GBIC port until it clicks into place (or until you
cannot insert it any further). Then move the front
lever to the downward position to lock the
transceiver into place.
4 If you haven’t already done so, remove the SC
connector cover from the transceiver, as shown in
Figure 7.

5 Plug the male duplex SC connector on the fiber optic
network cable into the duplex SC port on the GBIC
transceiver, as shown in Figure 8. If you are using an
SX transceiver, the fiber optic cable must support
multimode transmission. If you are using an LX
transceiver, the fiber optic cable must support
single-mode transmission or multimode transmission
with a conditioned launch cable.
You can also connect an LX transceiver to multimode
fiber. See “Connecting the LX Transceiver to MMF” on
page 24 for details.
In the event that you need to remove the GBIC
transceiver, follow these steps, depending on the
transceiver that you are using:
■ Side tabs
— Compress the side tabs and gently
pull the transceiver out of the port.
OR
■ Front lever
— Move the front lever to the upward
position. Then grasp the lever and gently pull the
transceiver out of the port.
