Turning the Computer On
To turn on the computer, press the Power button (
®
). You should hear a tone when you
turn on the computer. It takes the computer a few moments to start up. This is normal.
When you press the Power button, the PowerBook checks its memory before it starts up. The
more memory installed, the longer the delay.

Problems Turning the Computer On?
Nothing happens when you press the Power button.

The battery may be drained. Make sure that you plugged in the power adapter
firmly into both the computer and a power source. The power adapter plug glows
when connected properly to the back of the PowerBook.

If the computer still doesn’t start up when you press the Power button, use the end
of a paper clip to press the reset button (see page 20) on the back of the computer.
Make sure the button releases to its original position after you have pressed it. Wait
a few seconds and then press the Power button again.

You see a picture of a disk or a folder with a blinking question mark.

This icon usually means that the computer can’t find system software on the hard
disk or any disks attached to the computer. You may need to reinstall system
software. See page 90.
