Install the Software DVD Decoder (Windows 2000)
(Optional)
The DVD decoder driver allows you to play DVD movies using your DVD-ROM drive on
the computer.
NOTE: When you are prompted to select a directory, Dell recommends that you use
the default directory setting.
1. Insert the Dell Inspiron 5000 Software DVD Decoder CD into the DVD-ROM
drive.
The installation program starts automatically and the
Choose Setup Language
window appears.
NOTE: If the installation program does not start automatically, navigate to the Dell
Inspiron 5000 Software DVD Decoder CD and click the
Setup
icon.
2. Select
English
, then click
OK
.
The
Welcome
screen appears.
3. Click
Next>
.
The
Software License Agreement
window appears.
4. Click
Ye s
.
The
Choose Destination
window appears.
5. Click
Next>
.
The files are copied to your disk and the
Setup Complete
window appears.
6. Ensure that the
Yes, I want to restart my computer now
is selected, and then
click
Finish
.
Your computer restarts and the desktop appears.
7. Insert your DVD into the DVD-ROM drive.
When you start your DVD for the first time, a
Warning
dialog box appears,
explaining that DVD playback performance is dependent on your overall system
configuration and that some DVD titles are protected with an antitaping product
provided by Macrovision, Inc.
NOTES: A variety of factors determine the DVD’s playback performance. For
more information, read the “Requirements” section in the release notes that
came
with your DVD software.
The Macrovision product allows you to view your DVD on most televisions, but it
distorts the video image if played back from a videotape. The DVD decoder soft-
ware provided with your system does not allow you to play back DVDs with
graphics cards that contain a TV-out connector.
