make sure the scanner’s terminator
switch is set correctly. See Chapter 2

The Scanner Status does not indicate “Device Ready” after you
click Test in the EPSON TWAIN 4 dialog box or the Scanner’s
Properties dialog box (Windows 98) in the Control Panel.

Turn off the scanner and computer
and check the connection between the
scanner and computer.

Make sure the SCSI interface board is
installed correctly.
Power on sequence is
incorrect.
Turn off the scanner and computer.
Turn on the scanner and then turn on
the computer.
SCSI driver is not installed
correctly.
Make sure the SCSI driver is properly
installed.
SCSI ID number is
unsuitable.
Change the scanner’s SCSI ID number
to one that is not being used by any
other SCSI device.
