partial reset. An action that returns
the printer to the current
configuration values.
platen. A backing, usually
cylindrical, against which printing
mechanisms strike or otherwise
deposit ink to produce an image.
power cord. Cable that carries the
main power supply between a room
outlet and a machine.
power-on custom set. The custom
set containing the values used to set
the printer parameters when the
printer is turned on.
power-on self test. A series of
diagnostic tests that are run
automatically by a device when the
power is turned On (|).
power switch. A device that
makes and breaks the contact
between equipment and the main
electricity supply.
print head. That part of the printer
that prints data.
print head carrier. Used to hold
the print head and ribbon guide
posts as they slide along the platen.
print quality. The quality of printed
output relative to existing standards
and in comparisons with jobs printed
earlier.
print speed. The number of
characters printed per unit of time.
problem determination. The
process of identifying the source of a
problem; for example, a program
| component, a machine error,
| telecommunication facilities, user or
contractor-installed programs or
| equipment, an environmental
| condition, such as a power loss, or a
user error.

ready. A state where you press
Start and there are no error
conditions. The printer can be
ready

remote. Concerning the peripheral

linked to the host processor and
generally using telecommunication

ribbon advance knob. Blue knob
used to move the ribbon within the
cartridge and around the print head
to take up slack and improve print
quality.
ribbon cartridge. The housing
holding the ribbon and containing
the ribbon advance knob.
ribbon guide. A device that
positions the ribbon as it moves from
a full spool to an empty one.
right roller assembly. Used to
guide the right side of cut forms
through the F3 forms device. Also
known as
feed roller
