Deploying NPIV for VMware ESX/ESXi 4.0
QLogic Fibre Channel and Converged Network Adapters support N_Port ID
virtualization (NPIV) for Fibre Channel and FCoE SANs. NPIV enables each
virtual machine to have its own Fibre Channel-FCoE world wide port name
(WWPN) by creating multiple virtual adapters on a single physical adapter.
ql2xloginretrycount Option to modify the login retry count.
ql2xlogintimeout Login timeout value in seconds. Default is 20.
ql2xmaxqdepth Maximum queue depth to report for target devices. Default is
32.
ql2xmaxsgs Maximum scatter or gather entries per I/O request. Default is
32.
ql2xoperationmode Option to enable operation mode for 2Gb or 4Gb Fibre Channel
Adapters. For 2Gb Fibre Channel Adapters, set to 0x5 to
enable zero input output (ZIO) mode. For 4Gb Fibre Channel
Adapters, set to 0x5/0x6 to enable ZIO mode.
ql2xplogiabsentdevice Option to enable PLOGI (port login) to devices that are not pres-
ent after a fabric scan. This workaround is required for some
Fibre Channel switch defects. 0 = no PLOGI (default); 1 = per-
form PLOGI.
ql2xqfullrampup Number of seconds to wait to begin to ramp-up the queue depth
for a device after a queue-full condition has been detected.
Default is 120 seconds.
ql2xusedefmaxrdreq Option to adjust PCIe™ Maximum Read Request Size. 1 =
use system default; 0 = default.
ql2xusedrivernaming Enables Consistent Device Naming feature. Default is 0 = dis-
abled, 1 = enabled.
qlport_down_retry
a
Maximum number of command retries to a port that returns
PORT-DOWN status. Default is 15. (This parameter is multiplied
by a factor of 2 to determine the number of seconds driver holds
the I/O request.)
Table Footnotes
a
This parameter determines how long the driver will internally queue I/O before returning the DID_NO_CONNECT
status to the SCSI mid layer.
