7.4.1 MPEG-2 Transport Stream Packet Encapsulation
As of the date of this publication, there is no standard for transmitting MPEG over
Ethernet. The encapsulation supported by the Sun MediaCenter server consists of
multiple MPEG-2 transport packets as payload of UDP over IP, which provides a
connectionless transport mechanism (see RFC 768 for description of the UDP
protocol). The number of MPEG transport packets for every UDP payload is seven,
which is the maximum number of 188-byte MPEG-2 transport packets that fits into
the maximum-size Ethernet packet of 1500 bytes.
