Making a Call
You can use your machine to make voice telephone calls, by dialling manually or by using One
Touch or Speed Dial memory. You can use the handset or if you have FAX-1030e you can use the
Speakerphone to make and receive calls. For more details, see Dialling a Number, page 19.
The “full-duplex” digital Speakerphone allows you to operate the phone hands free, or allows more
than one person in the room to participate in a two-way phone conversation. When using the
Speakerphone, make sure that you speak clearly. If the other party has difficulty hearing you, move
closer to the microphone or use the handset.
On Hook Dialling

Dial the number by using the dial pad or Quick-Dial keys.
The number you are dialling, or the name you have stored for One Touch or Speed Dial is
displayed on the LCD.

For FAX-1020e press
Fax Start
and pick up the handset when you hear the call answered on
the monitor speaker. If you press
Hook
before lifting the handset, the call will be disconnected.
Replace the handset to finish the call.
For FAX-1030e, press
Fax Start
, and when the call is answered, you can now speak to the party
at the other end without lifting the handset. Press
Speaker phone
when you finish the
conversation.
One Touch Dialling

Pick up the handset—OR—Press
Speaker phone
(for FAX-1030e only).

Press the One Touch Dial key of the location you want to call. To use One Touch Dial numbers
7-12, hold down
Shift
and press the appropriate One Touch Dial key.

To hang up, replace the handset—OR—Press
Speaker phone
(for FAX-1030e only).
Speed Dialling

Pick up the handset—OR—Press
Speaker phone
(for FAX-1030e only).

Press
Search/Mute
, then press
#
and the two-digit Speed Dial number. (See Storing Speed Dial
Numbers, page 16.)

To hang up, replace the handset—OR—Press
Speaker phone
(for FAX-1030e only).
If you try to use a One Touch or Speed Dial location with no number stored in it,
you hear a warning sound, and screen displays
NOT ASSIGNED
. The display
returns to normal after 2 seconds.
