Cluster Resource Group
When you create a new cluster, the cluster will contain (by default) a cluster group
that contain the default settings and resources for the cluster. This group contains a
list of the cluster resources, which includes the following:
• Cluster IP address
• IP network name (cluster network resource name)
• Quorum disk
When you install the Cluster Service and configure the cluster in the Cluster
Configuration wizard, the IP address and the name of the cluster you enter in the
wizard becomes the IP address and IP network name of the cluster. If you prefer to
relocate the quorum disk, you can move the quorum disk to another disk group.
Adding Additional Applications and Data to the Quorum Disk
The quorum disk, by default, is installed in the “Cluster Group.” Dell recommends
that you do not install additional applications into the Cluster Group. The Cluster
Group also contains a network name and IP address resource, which is used to man-
age the cluster. However, if you choose to use the quorum disk for applications and
data, Dell recommends that you perform the following steps:
1. Create a small partition on one of the shared RAID drives.
2. Allocate 100 megabytes (MB) to the partition.
One hundred megabytes (MB) (100 MB) is a satisfactory size for this partition,
but no other applications or data should be stored there.
3. Assign a drive letter to the partition.
4. Assign the Cluster Service files (quorum disk) to this drive letter during installa-
tion.
This procedure will prevent other application programs or data from filling the par-
tition where the quorum resource is located.
NOTICE: If the quorum disk's partition becomes full, the quorum
resource is not able to expand and may become corrupt. If a separate
partition is not used for the quorum resource, ensure that the quorum
disk’s partition does not become full when used by other applications
or files.
You can place applications and data on the remaining partitions or space on the
shared disk with the quorum resource partition. These partition(s) must be placed
in the same cluster group as the quorum resource partition to ensure failover
consistency.
5. Move the quorum disk (which the quorum resource partition) out of the cluster
group and into another group.
