Telephone Features
As you’ve probably guessed by now, your fax machine is also a telephone. Let’s
look briefly at the machine’s telephone features.
Redial
Press
redial/pause
to --- you guessed it! --- redial the last number you dialled. (Be
sure that attempt, too, was also a regular phone call. In a multi-user setting,
someone else may have quickly sent a fax without your knowing it.)
Hold
You can put a call on hold during a conversation by pressing
hold
.
Hold
As this point, you can either hang up the handset or leave it off the hook. To
return to your conversation:
• If you hung up the handset, pick it up.
• If you didn’t hang up the handset, press
hold
again.
As a courtesy feature, your fax machine will beep at one-minute intervals to
remind you of the call on hold. If you do not pick up the call after five minutes,
your fax machine will hang up the call, automatically.
On-hook Dialing
Because your fax machine has a monitor speaker, you can dial without picking up
the handset. For hands-free dialing:
1. Press
monitor/call.
You’ll here a dial tone.
2. Dial the number using the numeric keypad, a one-touch key, or a speed-dial
number.
Note:
Remember, your fax machine’s monitor speaker is not a speakerphone;
so, be sure to pick up the fax handset if the other person answers!
Note:
You also can dial a fax call this way if, for some reason, you want to
hear the other machine’s answering fax tones. (Make sure there’s a
document in the feeder.) When you do hear those tones, press
start
to
send the document.
You can EasyDial regular phone calls, too
Just in case you didn’t notice, the EasyDial directory dialing feature is available
for regular phone calls as well as fax calls. Review the EasyDial instructions on
page 2.8 for more information.
Caller ID
(Only for HongKong and Singapore)
Caller ID is your local telephone company’s service that allows you to see a
display of the caller’s phone (or fax) number or name before you pick up the
handset or your fax machine automatically receives the call.
If you get the Caller ID service, the following information will show on the LCD
when your machine rings:
• You’ll see the first 16 characters of the caller’s phone number or name.
If both the caller’s phone number and name are received, only the name will
appears on the LCD.
• If “Private” is shown on the LCD, it means that the caller intentionally
blocked the transmission of his/her ID.
• If “Out of area” is shown on the LCD, it means that the call came from
outside your caller ID service area.
Your fax machine can store up to 10 incoming Caller ID in the memory.
The 11th call will cause the oldest ID to be erased.
Note:
Your fax machine cannot receive the caller ID in case of the following:
• If the line condition is poor.
• If the fax machine is working.
• If the number of ring is set to “1”.
Please setup the number of rings 2 and more to have the Caller ID.
• If the toll saver is working. (Toll saver feature is available only for
M880).
Note:
For more information of Caller ID service, please contact your local
telephone company.
