Writable discs
This section describes the types of writable discs. Check the specifications
for your drive to for the type of discs it can write. Use TOSHIBA Disc Creator
to write compact discs. Refer to Chapter 4, Operating Basics.
CDs
CD-R discs can be written only once. The recorded data cannot be
erased or changed.
CD-RW discs can be recorded more than once. Use either 1x, 2x, or 4x
multi-speed CD-RW discs or high-speed 4x to 10x discs. The write
speed of ultra-speed CD-RW discs is a maximum of 24x speed.
DVDs
DVD-R and DVD+R discs can be written only once. The recorded data
cannot be erased or changed.
DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM discs can be recorded more than
once.
DVD Super Multi drive supporting ±R Double Layer
The full-size DVD Super Multi drive supporting ±R Double Layer module lets
you record data to rewritable discs as well as run either 12cm (4.72") or 8cm
(3.15") discs without using an adapter.
This drive cannot use discs that allow writing faster than 8x speed or faster
(DVD-R and DVD+R with Single Layer), 6x speed or faster (DVD-RW), 8x
speed or faster (DVD+RW), 5x speed (DVD-RAM) or ultra-speed or faster
(CD-RW).
HD DVD-ROM drive
The HD DVD-ROM supporting ±R Double Layer module lets you record data
to rewritable discs as well as run either 12cm (4.72") or 8cm (3.15") discs
without using an adapter.
The read speed is slower at the centre of a disc and faster at the other edge.
