CHAPTER 6
TROUBLESHOOTING
This chapter contains instructions for using LANVIEW LEDs to
troubleshoot physical layer network problems. It also describes how to
reset the SEHI and how to reset the NVRAM switch.
6.1 INSTALLATION CHECKOUT
After connecting the SEHI to the network, verify that the packets pass
between all Ethernet devices connected to the SEHI and any other devices
connected to the network. If there is a problem with any of the attached
devices, check the link as follows:
1. Check that the LNK LED, if applicable, for the port is on. If the LED
is off, proceed with the following steps:
a. Check that the 10BASE-FL device at the other end of the fiber
optic segment is powered up and that the TX and RX fibers are
properly connected.
b. For twisted pair EPIMs such as the EPIM-T, verify that the
connector on the twisted pair segment has the proper pinouts.
Refer to Chapter 3 for the pin assignments for twisted pair
connectors.
For the SEHI 10BASE-FL ports and the EPIM-F1, EPIM-F2, or
EPIM-F3 check that the TX and RX fibers are properly connected.
c. Check the cable for continuity. Several tools are available for this
test, depending on the media used.
d. Check that the twisted pair segments meet cable specifications for
dB loss as described in Chapter 3.
