Caring for Drives
Drives are fragile computer components that must be handled
with care.
Ä
CAUTION: To prevent damage to the computer or drive and loss of
information:
Turn off the computer before removing or inserting a hard drive
from the hard drive bay or MultiBay. Do not remove a hard drive
while the computer is on, in Suspend, or in Hibernation.
Remove a storage medium from the drive prior to removing the
drive from the computer.
Close the CD or DVD media tray before removing the drive.
Electrostatic discharge can damage electronic components.
Before handling a drive, ensure that you are discharged of static
electricity. Grasp the outer case and avoid touching the
connectors. For more information about preventing electrostatic
damage, refer to the
Regulatory and Safety Notices
guide on
this CD.
Do not use force when inserting a drive into a bay. Excessive
force may damage the connectors.
Handle the drive carefully. Do not drop it.
Avoid exposing a hard drive to products with magnetic fields
such as video and audio tape erasure products, monitors, and
speakers.
Do not spray a drive with cleaners.
Avoid exposing a drive to liquids or temperature extremes. If a
drive must be mailed, ship it in packaging that protects it from
shock, vibration, temperature, and humidity. Label the mailer as
“fragile.”
