Configuring Fibre Channel HBAs on Separate PCI Buses
Dell recommends configuring Fibre Channel HBAs on separate PCI buses. While con-
figuring the adapters on separate buses improves availability and performance, this
recommendation is not a requirement.
The following list provides the PCI slot assignment information for the PowerEdge
8450 system PCI buses, RAID controllers, HBAs, and the Dell OpenManage Remote
Assistant Card (DRAC).
PCI buses
PCI bus 0: PCI slot 1 and 2 are 64-bit, 33-MHz.
PCI bus 1: PCI slots 3 through 6 are 64-bit, 33-MHz.
PCI bus 2: PCI slots 7 and 8 are 64-bit, 33/66-MHz
PCI bus 3: PCI slots 9 and 10 are 64-bit, 33/66-MHz.
RAID controllers
Install the RAID controller for the system’s internal drives in PCI slot 1.
HBAs
For dual HBA configurations, Dell recommends installing the HBAs on sepa-
rate PCI buses (PCI buses 2 and 3, which includes PCI slots 7 through 10) to
balance the load on the system.
DRAC
If you are currently using a DRAC or plan to use one in the future, install it in
PCI slot 2.
Configuring PowerVault DPE and DAE Enclosure
Addresses
When adding a PowerVault DAE to a PowerVault DPE, each DAE must have a unique
enclosure address (EA). Be sure to set the EA of each enclosure attached to a
PowerVault DPE to a unique value.
See the Installation and Troubleshooting Guide for your PowerVault storage system
for more information on setting enclosure addresses.
