Chapter 4 Regulatory Specifications and Declarations
4.3 Essential Compliance Information
This section documents miscellaneous points that should be observed to ensure the proper and safe use of
this product worldwide.
4.3.1 Safety
Users of these products must refer to the safety information included in Chapter 1, “Warnings and
Cautions”and Chapter 11, “International Warnings”.
Service personnel must also refer to the safety information in Chapter 7, “Warnings and Cautions”,
Section 10.1, “Safety: Before Removing the Top Cover” on page 59 and Section 10.2, “Warnings and
Cautions: Working Inside the Product” on page 59.
It is not intended for these products to be installed in a home or residential environment. It is not intended
for these products to be installed or operated in a stressful or inordinary environment such as industrial
sites, medical applications, or in flammable/explosive environments. These products are designed for
installation in buildings with a power distribution that contains a protective earth conductor.
4.3.2 EMC
Warning: This is a class A product. In a domestic environment this product may cause radio
interference in which case the user may be required to take adequate measures.
4.3.2.1 Installation of Cables
In order to ensure that the EMC performance of the products meet regulatory requirements:
Cables used for the PCM interface ports (T1/E1) shall be twisted-pair screened cables, grounded at both
ends.
Cables used for the Ethernet interfaces shall be shielded cables, grounded at both ends.
Cables used for the SS7 serial interface ports (V.11), marked AUX, shall be shielded cables, grounded at
both ends, and have the ferrite clamps, provided with the product, installed close to the connector
backshell.
Cables used to connect a DC powered product to a DC source, and the safety ground conductor, when
installed in locations other than telecommunications centres, shall be less than 3 metres long.
4.3.2.2 Further Information
For further information on good EMC practice, the installer should consult the IEC61000-5-x series of
technical reports on the subject of “Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) - Installation and Mitigation
Guidelines”. In particular, the following sections are recommended:

IEC61000-5-2 - Earthing and Cabling
IEC61000-5-6 - Mitigation of External EM Influences
4.3.3 Telecommunications
The telecommunication interfaces of these products are not intended for direct connection to “outside plant”
signal conductors (metallic). These products shall be isolated, by channel banks or office repeaters, from any
connections to network or terminal equipment, that lie outside of the same building. The telecommunication
interface connections are considered to be, and meet the requirements of, SELV circuits (not TNV). Refer
also to any region specific information on network connection (see Section 4.2.3, “FCC Part 68 Statement -
USA” on page 26, Section 4.2.4, “Telecommunications Attachment Notice - Canada” on page 27,
Section 4.2.6, “Telecommunications Notice - Australia / New Zealand” on page 27 and Section 4.2.7,
“Telecommunications Notice - Taiwan” on page 27).
