5. (Master GTI only) Disconnect the two Site
Controller data link plugs from the back of the
Master GTI.
6. Disconnect the PCM Data Bus from the back panel
of the GTI. If there are two cables (or one cable
and a termination) quickly reconnect the two cables
(or the cable and the termination) back together
without the GTI and let hang).
It is necessary to temporarily separate the two
PCM Data Bus cables when disconnecting them
from a GTI. While separated, all GTIs
connected to higher numbered radio channels
will not be connected to the Master GTI and may
cause interconnect abnormalities such as dropped
calls and/or alarms.
NOTE
Use the preceding procedure in reverse to reconnect the
GTI to the MASTR III EDACS Repeater.
ELI SOFTWARE UPGRADES
Using non-compatible versions of ELI software
may lock-up (disable) each radio channel that is
assigned to a local telephone interconnect call.
CAUTION
When upgrading to a new ELI software release number
or adding new GTIs to an existing ELI system, you must
make sure that all software versions and all GTI Main Board
revision numbers used in that ELI system (each GTI and
IAM) are compatible for that ELI software release number.
Using non-compatible versions of software or hardware may
lock-up (disable) each radio channel that is assigned to a
local telephone interconnect call. Table 7 lists which
software versions are required for each ELI software release
number. Table 8 lists which software versions are required
for each Main Board revision number.
Three plans for upgrading an existing ELI system from
release 1.0 to release 1.1 software are given here. Each of
the plans require that the ELI system be completely taken
out of service while changes are made to the Master GTI
unit. The differences are in how many (if any) GTI units
you put in use before you have finished making changes to
all of the GTI units.

Plan A is to take the ELI system completely out of
service while changes are made to the Master GTI unit and
all regular GTI units. This plan is easiest for those making
the changes to the GTI units, but hardest for those wanting
to use the ELI system while the changes are being made.
Plan B is to briefly take the ELI system completely out
of service while the first half of the regular GTI units are
disconnected, then run the ELI system at half capacity while
changes are made to the first half of the regular GTI units,
then take the ELI system completely out of service while
changes are made to the Master GTI unit, and then run the
ELI system at half capacity while changes are made to the
second half of the regular GTI units. This plan is harder for
those making the changes to the GTI units, but is easier for
those wanting to use a heavily-loaded ELI system while the
changes are being made.
Plan C is to take the ELI system completely out of
service while changes are made to the Master GTI unit, and
then run the ELI system with only the Master GTI unit while
changes are made to the first regular GTI unit. As the
changes for each regular GTI unit or group of regular GTI
units are completed, they can be reconnected and brought
back into service. This plan is harder for those making the
changes to the GTI units, but is easier for those wanting to
use a lightly-loaded ELI system while the changes are being
made.
