Configuration” on page 127 and storage subsystems are described in
Chapter 4, “Storage Architectures and Devices” on page 97.
3.2.4.1 Additional Processor
Two processor card slots are available on the system board. Since the
system comes with one standard POWER3 processor, a second processor
can be added (# 4342). As already mentioned, if two processor cards are
installed in the system, they must both be the same type or the system will
not power on.
3.2.4.2 Memory
The RS/6000 43P 7043 Model 260 comes standard with 256 MB of ECC
SDRAM memory and can be expanded up to 4 GB.
The DIMMs can be installed in one or two memory cards. Each card can
contain 16 DIMMs, which are available as 32 MB DIMMs (# 4107) or 128 MB
DIMMs (# 4110). If you need more than 16 DIMMs, you have to order the
Memory Expansion Feature (# 4098).
The first memory card must be installed in memory card slot 2. Memory
DIMMs must be ordered and installed in pairs on the memory cards. They
must be installed starting at the bottom of each card (card slot J1 and J2).
See Figure 27 for the memory card configuration.
As a 64 bit operating system, AIX 4.3.2 fully supports the maximum
memory configuration. AIX 4.2.1, however, limits support to a maximum of
3 GB of real memory to allow mapping of I/O in the address space.
