Insert the diskette and the AIX 4.1.4 CD and boot the target machine (the one
you want to install on) from the CD product media and go into the installation
main menu.
On a PCI-based machine, just press F5 when the icons appear on the
screen. This will cause the default firmware boot list to be used.
On a MCA-based machine, turn the key to the service mode and then.
power-on the machine.
Make sure the tape drive is turned on, but do not insert the tape yet since it
might try to boot from the tape. Press the F1 when the console screen comes
up; then press Enter when the language screen comes up (to get English).
When the following screen comes up, choose option 3. Start Maintenance
Mode for System Recovery.
Then choose option 4. Install from a System Backup from the Maintenance
Mode for the System Recovery submenu.
Put the mksysb tape in the tape drive and close the door. Select the tape
drive from that menu and press Enter. You will then see the system access
the tape drive and restore it from the diskette drive. Then the confirmation
screen will come up. Choose 1 or 2, press Enter, then press Enter, then
press Enter again to confirm the install. If you are using AIX 4.1.3, you will
see the language menu come up after the tape is read and the diskette is
restored. Just press Enter for the default English, and you will get the
confirmation install screen. Choose 0 and press Enter to start the install.
