Face-down delivery A type of paper deliveryin which the paper is
ejectedfromtheprinterwiththe printedsidefacingdownward.
Face-updeliveryAtypeofpaperdeliveryinwhichthepaperis ejected
from the printer with the printed side facing upward. Face-up
delive~ is used for printing envelopes,transparencyfihns and
labels.
Fixingassembly— Theassemblyusedto fix thetoneron to thepaperor
other materialusing heat and pressurein printingprocess. It is
located inside the printer and it gets extremelyhot during the
operation.
Font— asetofletters,numbers,andsymbolsofthesametypefacedesign.
FontcartridgeFontcartridgescontainfontswhichcansupplementthe
availableresidentfonts of the printerto increasethe variety of
typefaces.
Glyph— a graphicsymbolthat conveysinformation.
Handshaking— indatacommunication,theautomaticacknowledgingby
thereceivingdeviceofinformationthathasbeensenttoit,eitherby
signalsandthe interface(“hard”)or by softwarecontrol(“soft”).
Hexdump— conversionbytheprinterof ASCIIsymbolsintotheirhexa-
decimal(base 16)equivalent.This is usefulfor programmersor
otheruserswhowanttotroubleshootthecommunicationsbetween
the computerandtheprinter.
HMI(HorizontalMotionIndex)— refersto dot spacingin the smallest
inc~mentthatcan be madein thehorizontalor x axis.
Interface— ahardwareplugthatallowscableconnectionsoftwodevices.
For instance,a cable from a computerparallelport to a printers
parallelport.
Landscape—
printing on paper across its wider dimension, such as a
spreadsheet that is 11 in. wide and 8.5 in. high; landscape pictures
are
usuallywiderthantheyaretall.
NVRAMNV(Non-volatile)RandomAccessMemoryisthepermanent
storagebytheStarLaserPrinter4 of settingsprogrammedfromthe
frontpanel,evenwhenthepoweristurnedoff.Whentheprinteris
turnedon again,thesesettingsbecomethe currentsettings.
