Running “Long Grain” Heavyweight 1 or
Coated 1 papers:
17 inch or larger Heavyweight 1 /
Coated 1 papers (105 – 176 gsm) may
sometimes be cut “Long Grain”. HW1 /
Coated 1 papers cut this way will be
nearly as stiff as HW 2 papers and will
likely jam if fed in the HW 1 or Coated 1
modes because they will be fed Face-up
into the inverter.
Looking at the paper size on the ream
wrapper can identify Long Grain paper.
The 2nd number in the size indicates
the grain direction. For example 11” x
17” indicates the grain is in the 17 inch
direction. This paper is Long Grain. 17”
x 11” indicates the grain is in the 11 inch
direction. This paper is Short Grain.
(See sketches below)
HW 1 or Coated 1 Papers labeled 11” x
17”, 12 x 18”, 13 x 19” etc. are Long
Grain and should be fed in HW2 /
Coated 2 mode. If your paper is not
supplied with a wrapper, check with your
paper supplier about the grain direction.
For Heavyweight 1 or Coated 1 papers (106 – 176
gsm) 17 inch or larger
Feed these in HW 1 / Coated 1 modes
Feed these in HW 2 / Coated 2 modes
Multi-sheet Feeds from Bypass:
Fan the paper stack before loading it into the
Bypass tray to prevent Multi-sheet feeds. If this
problem persists, replace paper with a fresh
ream.
