Enabling STP on
the Switch
To enable STP for one or more STP domains on your Switch, use the
following command at the administrator prompt:
enable stpd [<stpd_name> | all]
Configuring STP You can configure the following STP parameters for each STPD on the
Switch:
Hello Time
Forward Delay
Max Age
Bridge Priority
You can configure the following STP parameters for each port on the
Switch:
Path Cost
Port Priority
CAUTION: You should not configure any STP parameters unless you
have considerable knowledge and experience with STP. The default STP
parameters are adequate for most networks.
Table 7-1 shows the commands used to configure STP.
Table 7-1 STP Configuration Commands
Command Description
create stpd <stpd_name> Allows you to create an STPD. When created, an STPD has
the following default parameters:
Bridge priority — 32,768
Hello time — 2 seconds
Forward delay — 15 seconds
enable stpd [<stpd_name> | all] Allows you to enable STP for one or more STPDs. The
default setting is disabled.
enable stpd port <portlist> Allows you to enable STP on one or more ports.
config stpd <stpd_name> add vlan <name> Allows you to add a VLAN to the STPD.
