SOFTWARE UPGRADE AND BOOT
O
PTIONS
This chapter describes the procedure for upgrading the Switch software
image. It also covers how to save and load a primary and secondary
configuration file on the Switch.
Upgrading the
Software
The image file contains the executable code that runs on the Switch
9000. It comes preinstalled on the Switch from the factory. As new
versions of the image are released, you should upgrade the software
running on your Switch.
The image is upgraded by using a Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP)
server on the network. Downloading a new image involves the
following:
Load the new image onto a TFTP server on your network.
Download the new image to the Switch 9000 using the following
command:
download image <ipaddress> <filename> {primary | secondary}
where:
ipaddress — is the IP address of the TFTP server
filename — is the filename of the new image
primary | secondary — (optional) indicates the image to which
you want the file downloaded. If no parameter is specified, the
file is saved to the primary image.
The Switch 9000 can store up to two images; a primary and a
secondary. When you download a new image, you must select into
which image space (primary or secondary) you want the new image to
be placed.
