To change the computer name:
$ sudo systemsetup -setcomputername computername
or
$ sudo networksetup -setcomputername computername
or
$ sudo serversetup -setComputername computername
To validate a computer name:
$ serversetup -verifyComputername computername
Viewing or Changing the Local Host Name
To display the server’s local host name:
$ serversetup -getHostname
To change the server’s local host name:
$ sudo serversetup -setHostname hostname
Viewing or Changing the Rendezvous Name
To display the server’s Rendezvous name:
$ serversetup -getRendezvousname
To change the server’s Rendezvous name:
$ sudo serversetup -setRendezvousname rendezvousname
The command displays a 0 if the name was changed.
Note: If you use the Server Admin GUI application to connect to a server using its
Rendezvous name, then change the server’s Rendezvous name, you will need to
reconnect to the server the next time you open the Server Admin application.
