Setting Community Strings
To change the IntraSwitch 5308FL’s community strings:

Open the SNMP Parameter Menu by typing n
in the Configuration Menu.

Type r to change the read community string
or w to change the write community string.

Type a new community string at the prompt.
To cancel a selected option, press ctrl-c at
the command prompt.

Press return.
The IntraSwitch 5308FL’s community strings
are configured.
Enabling Authentication Traps
The IntraSwitch 5308FL can be set to generate
authentication traps.
Authentication traps are messages sent across the network
to an SNMP network management application (such as
AsantéView or IntraSpection). They occur when a network
management station with an invalid community string
attempts to access the IntraSwitch 5308FL.
To set the IntraSwitch 5308FL to generate authentication
traps:

Open the SNMP Parameter Menu by typing n
on the Configuration Menu.

Type t on the SNMP Parameter Menu to tog-
gle trap authentication from disabled to
enabled.

Make sure there is a least one trap receiver
entry. (See “Adding a Trap Receiver Entry” on
page 5-21.)
