Solving Infrared Problems

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Cannot transmit
data
Direct sunlight,
fluorescent light, or
flashing incandescent
light is close to the
infrared connections.
Remove the interfering
light source(s).
There is interference
from other wireless
devices.
Keep remote control
devices such as wireless
headphones and other
audio devices away from
the infrared connections.
A physical obstruction
is in the way.
Do not place objects that
will interfere with a line-of-
sight data transmission
between the two devices.
One of the devices
was moved during
data transmission.
Do not move either device
during data transmission.
The orientation of the
units is incorrect.
Adjust the devices so that
they point directly at each
other.
The distance between
the devices is too
great.
Verify that devices are not
more than 1.5 feet (0.5
meter) apart.
Infrared port does
not work
Direct sunlight,
fluorescent light, or
flashing incandescent
light is close to the
infrared connection.
Remove the interfering

There is interference
from other wireless
devices.
