The7H438549has48,10BASET/100BASETX,PoEcompliantportsthatareaccessed
throughthefixed
frontpanelRJ45connectors.Thereisalsoanslotforanoptional
networkexpansionmodule(NEM).TheDFEmodulecanbeinstalledinaMatrix E7,
Matrix N1,Matrix N3,Matrix N5,orMatrix N7chassis.
The7H438549DFEPlatinummodulealsosupportsbridgingbetweentheFrameTransfer
MatrixFTM1andFTM2backplanesina
Matrix E7chassis.Whenmixing6x1xxx,6x2xxx,
6x3xxx,and7H43xxxxseriesmodulesinaMatrix E7chassis,certainhardware
installationconfigurationrulesmustbefollowedtoensureproperoperation.Theserules
arecoveredinModulePlacementandInstallationRulesonpage 34.
Eachofthefixedfrontpanelportscanoperate
ineitherhalfduplexorfullduplexmode
ofoperation.Theduplexmodecanbedeterminedbyeitherautonegotiationormanual
configuration.
TheDFEmoduleportscanbeconfiguredtoprovideahighlevelofsecurity,controltraffic
bylimitingtherateoftrafficacceptedintothemoduleand
prioritizingtraffictoexpedite
theflowofhigherprioritytrafficthroughthe module.Foracompletelistofcapabilities,

TheDFEmodulereceivespowerandbackplaneconnectivitywhenitisinsertedintothe
Matrix E7,Matrix N7,Matrix N5,Matrix N3,orMatrix N1chassis.The
powertosupport
theDFEmoduleconnectionsto802.3afPoEcompliant48VdcPDs(powereddevices)can
befromthebackplaneofaMatrix N5chassisorfromanoptionalexternalMatrixNPOE
PowerSystem.
TheMatrixNPOEPowerSystemcanprovide48Vdctosupportuptoeight
PoE
compliantDFEmodules.TheconnectionfromtheNPOEPowerSystemisbywayof
the48Vdc~20AMaximum,optionalPowerInputconnectoronthefrontpanelofthe
DFEmodule.
Note: Only an N-POE Power System can be connected to the 48 Vdc ~ 20 A Maximum
Optional Power Input connector of a series PoE-compliant DFE module such as the
7H4385-49.
