5. Navigate to the folder where you saved the fi rmware upgrade fi le. Select the
le.
N
Valid rmware fi les must have the fi le extension .S19. Any other fi le extension
is not a fi rmware upgrade.
N
The original factory-installed fi rmware is permanently available on the
MVX 128 A switcher. If the attempted fi rmware upload fails for any reason, the
switcher reverts to the factory-installed fi rmware.
6. Click the Open button. A status window, which shows the progress of the
upload, appears (fi gure 5-5). The fi rmware upload to the MVX 128 A switcher
may take a few minutes.

If the fi rmware loader utility exits before the status bar has progressed completely
across the indicator window, try using a control cable with only pins 2, 3, and 5
connected. If necessary, modify the cable by removing pins or cutting wires.
7. When prompted, confi rm that the fi rmware version displayed in the fi rmware
loader is correct. Click Ok in the Firmware Update prompt window.
8. Click the Exit button to exit the fi rmware loader utility.
N
The rmware loader utility increases the serial port’s baud rate to 115,200 to
speed up the upload process. Occasionally, the fi rmware loader may be unable
to return the serial port to its earlier baud rate, in which case communications
with the switcher may not be possible. If you are no longer able to communicate
with the switcher after the fi rmware upload completes, see Selecting the
RS-232/RS-422 protocol and baud rate in chapter 3, Operation, on
page 3-33.
