3.1.2 Footprint
The size of the footprint can also play a role in the client selection. The footprint
increases with the complexity and number of features of the product. The DB2
Data Server Driver has the smallest footprint, and the DB2 Data Server Client
has the largest footprint. In between is the DB2 Data Server Runtime Client.
The DB2 Data Server Driver is especially well suited to be used in a mass
deployment scenario. It is designed for ease of use in this scenario. For example,
both driver registration and configuration during installation as well as driver
unregistration during uninstallation are handled automatically by the DB2
installation program.
3.1.3 Reducing the size of the install image
The default install image for a DB2 Data Server Client contains all the features
and many language options. This makes the install image relatively larger than
other client options. Besides, you may only interested in a subset of the features
and one of the language options. In large scale deployment or embedding, the
DB2 client in the application is required; you can remove unused features and
language options from the install image.
