Support Tag-based VLAN (IEEE 802.1Q VLAN)
Tagged-based VLAN is an IEEE 802.1Q specification standard. Therefore, it is
possible to create a VLAN across devices from different switch venders. IEEE
802.1Q VLAN’s use a technique to insert a “tag” into the Ethernet frames. The “tag”
contains a VLAN Identifier (VID) that indicates the VLAN number that the packet
belongs to.
Support Protocol-based VLAN
In order for a workstation to send packets to different VLAN’s, it has to be either
capable of tagging packets it sends with VLAN tags or attached to a VLAN-aware
bridge that is capable of classifying and tagging the packet with a different VLAN ID
based on not only default PVID but also other information about the packet, such as
the protocol.
24 + 2 Giga SNMP Ethernet Switch supports protocol-based VLAN classification by
means of both built-in knowledge of layer 2 packet formats used by selected popular
protocols, such as Novell IPX and AppleTalk’s EtherTalk, and a programmable
protocol matching capability.
