Assigning Ethernet Address Parameters, Continued
If no BOOTP response is received and if address parameters have been stored
previously in Flash memory, the adapter will use the parameters from Flash
memory.
If no BOOTP response is received and if no parameters have been stored
previously, the adapter will continue to try the BOOTP request every 30 seconds.
During this time the RUN indicator on the Processor Adapter will display a pattern
of five flashes.
If the Processor
Adapter Is Re-
initialized
If the adapter has stored its address parameters and is re-initialized (for example,
following loss of power), the adapter will again issue requests for parameters from
a BOOTP server.
If the server responds with address parameters, the adapter will use those
parameters.
If the server does not respond, the adapter will revert to the address
parameters previously stored in Flash memory.
Processor Test In all cases, when the processor receives an IP address, it will test for duplicate
addressesby sending broadcast ARP requests three times at 5 second intervals. If
there are no replies to its requests, it will send gratuitous ARP three times at 2
second intervals to announce its presence on the network.
