Ethernet (IEEE 802.3) architecture tha t uses twisted-pair
cabling.
ARP
Address Resolution Protocol. Internet protocol used to map the
IP address to the Ethernet hardware address.
BOOTP
Boot Protocol. Protocol that enables a network client to
automatically discover its networking parameters on power up
from a BOOTP server.
DHCP
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. Protocol that enables a
net client to automatically discover its networking parameters
on power up from a DHCP server and refresh those parameters
periodically.
DNS
Domain Name Service. A protocol that maps Internet hostnames
(e.g. www.tek.com) to IP addresses.
Ethernet address
The unique, six-byte a ddress assigned by the product manufac-
turer that di stinguishes each talk/listen device on the LAN. The
address consists of hexadecimal numbers separated by colons
(hh:hh:hh:hh:hh:hh).
FTP
File Transfer Protocol. Enables a client host to send or receive
files to and/or from an FTP server host.
GPIB
General Purpose Interface Bus (IEEE-488).
