ITU-TSS: International Telecommunications Union - Telecommunication Stand-

Jumper: A small device to close a contact. If the jumper TS2 is closed on a ZyXEL
internal card model, the modem will go into self-test at the next power-on.
LAPM: Link Access Procedure for Modems - a protocol which controls the hand-
shake between two modems.
Layer protocol: A standard of the ISO (International Standards Organization)
which defines everything regarding data communications from the hardware to the
screen display in seven levels.
LCD: Liquid Crystal Display – a display device similar to those used in pocket cal-
culators. The LCD on the Supreme model is backlit.
LED: Light Emitting Diode - a display element.
LINE: The jack on the rear panel which is connected to the wall phone outlet.
Mailbox: Electronic letter box; BBS.
Mailer: A program which works with a remote BBS and requests and distributes
messages automatically.
