5.1.6 Multiple Port Adapters
In this section, information on the available multi-port asynchronous adapters
is provided.
5.1.6.1 PCI 8-Port Asynchronous Adapter EIA-232/RS-422 (# 2943)
The 8-Port Asynchronous Adapter EIA-232/RS-422 is used for connection of
up to eight asynchronous EIA-232 or RS-422 devices. All eight ports are
software programmable to support either EIA-232E or RS-422A protocols at
up to 230 Kbps.
5.1.6.2 PCI 128-Port Asynchronous Controller (# 2944)
The 128-Port Asynchronous Adapter subsystem provides attachment for a
high concentration of asynchronous lines (up to 128) from a single PCI bus
slot. This gives the system the ability to serve a large number of EIA-232 or
RS-422 devices such as terminals, printers, and modems.
Two 2.4 Mbps synchronous channels link the adapter to a maximum of eight
16-Port Remote Asynchronous Nodes (RANs).Up to four RANs can be linked
to each synchronous channel.
These RANs provide 16 EIA-232 (# 8137) or 16 RS-422 (# 8138) ports,
yielding a total of 128-ports in a maximum configuration. Previous RANs
feature # 8130, 8134, or 8136 can also be used with this adapter. If these
RANs are connected to the synchronous channel, the data rate drops down to
1.2 Mbps. For best results, keep the previous and current RANs on separate
synchronous channels.
5.1.7 WAN Adapters
In this section, information on the available WAN adapters is given.
5.1.7.1 PCI 2-Port Mulitprotocol Adapter (# 2962)
The 2-Port Multiprotocol Adapter provides high-speed connections to wide
area networks (WANs) through two 2 Mbps ports. To access WAN lines, the
adapter connects through an external communications controller, such as a
synchronous modem, Data Service Unit (DSU), or Channel Service Unit
(CSU). With the appropriate cable, this adapter is compatible with the
following specifications:
X.21
V.24
