8.2 Entering Debug Mode
On a Micro Channel-based RS/6000 system, you can enter debug mode, lldb,
by switching the key to Service and pressing one of the following key
combinations:
• ctl-alt-numpad4 (on a graphical console)
• CTL-\ (on an ASCII display)
The CTL-\ key combination is valid on most OEM terminals. On some IBM
3151 terminals, using a cartridge, you may have to press CTL-NUMPAD4.
Since the Models 150 and 260 have a static electronic key that is set to
Normal during the normal operation of AIX, the above key sequences will not
work unless the debugger, lldb, is pinned. You can do this by entering the
following command and rebooting your machine:
# bosboot -D -a -d /dev/hdiskx
Where hdiskx is the disk containing the boot logical volume. After rebooting
your machine, using either of the two key sequences shown above will invoke
the debugger on an ASCII terminal (although the debugger can be invoked
with a graphical display keyboard, an ASCII terminal must be attached to use
the debugger). Be aware that anyone using either a graphical or ASCII
console will be able to make the machine unavailable to other users.
8.3 Backup and Cloning
This section describes how to create system backups that will be restored on
the same or different machines (cloning).
8.3.1 The bootinfo Command
The type of machine (platform type) being used can be determined with the
bootinfo command. This command uses the device configuration databases
to obtain information. In addition, the
bootinfo command uses the values that
are stored in NVRAM.
To determine the platform of a running machine, use the
bootinfo -p
command if the machine is running AIX Version 4.2 or later. If the machine is
