synthetic stock Non-cellulose sheets resembling paper. Most are made from thermoplastic materials.
tab stock A cover weight stock that is slightly longer in one dimension than normal size sheets
and used to mark off sections. Precut tabs are stamped to remove all but a small tab
on the extending edge.
talc A mineral substance that is used as a filler in some grades of paper.
TAPPI Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry
text paper A fine quality paper with a textured surface that can be produced with a wide variety of
finishes. Used for booklets, brochures, fine books, announcements and the like.
trail edge The edge of the sheet that leaves the paper tray last. Also referred to as the tail edge.
transparencies Thin, semi-rigid clear or colored plastic sheets, 8-1/2” x 11” or A4-size, that can be
imaged in a digital press. The printed sheets are projected onto a wall or screen by an
overhead projector.
uncoated paper Any paper that does not have a coating applied to its surface.
virgin fiber Fibers used in paper making that are produced from raw materials such as wood,
straw, cotton or grass.
