Introduction

In the event of errors, the ServerView Operations Manager refers you directly
to the affected component and its order information in the Illustrated Spares
catalog of the server in question. (This feature is not available for the Japanese
market.)
Server performance
The system unit has 8 slots for server blades. Four server blade slots can be
fitted with storage blades (or six slots with JBODs) which provide additional
storage capacity for the neighboring server blades. For information on installing
and removing server blades and storage blades, see section "Server blades
and storage blades" on page 82. For further information on the server blades
and storage blades, see the relevant operating manuals.
Connection blades
The PRIMERGY BX400 S1 system unit has four slots for connection blades on
the back. These provide the installed server blades with connections to the
Ethernet LAN as well as to SAN environments and Infiniband environments.
The following connection blade types are available:
Ethernet connection blades
Connection Blade GbE Switch/IBP 36/12 (SB11A)
36 internal 1-Gbit ports to the server blades
8 external 1-Gbit ports through RJ45 connections
4 external 1-Gbit ports through SFP modules
I This connection blade can be used in all connection blade slots.
Connection Blade GbE Switch/IBP 36/8+2 (SB11)
36 internal 1-Gbit ports to the server blades
8 external 1-Gbit ports through RJ45 connections
2 external 10-Gbit ports through SFP+ modules
1 internal stacking port to the midplane of the BX400 S1 system unit
1 external stacking port through a CX4 connection
The stacking ports allow up to 4 SB11 connection blades to be
switched together to form a so-called stack, see "Connection blade
stacking" on page 94.
