C.2.2 CPU Module
TABLE C-2 lists the maximum number of CPU modules that can be installed in the
system, their locations, and how the CPU modules must be serviced. Each CPU
module contains two SPARC 64 VI or SPARC 64 VII processor chips. Each processor
chip incorporates and implements the following:
■ Chip multithreading (CMT) design that sequentially executes the multiple
processes on the CPU.
■ Dual core processors per CPU module (with four CPU modules there are eight
processors and 16 cores).
■ Quad core processors per CPU module (with four CPU modules there are eight
processors and 32 cores).
■ SPARC Instruction Set Architecture (ISA).
■ Visual Instruction Set (VIS) extension, which accelerates multimedia, networking,
encryption, and Java™ processing.
