HP (Hewlett-Packard) 3500, 3700 Printer User Manual

HP toolbox
The HP toolbox is an application that you can use for the following tasks:
checking the printer status
configuring the printer settings
viewing troubleshooting information
viewing online documentation
printing internal printer pages
You can view the HP toolbox when the printer is directly connected to your computer or when
it is connected to a network. You must have performed a complete software installation to
use the HP toolbox.
Embedded Web server (available for the HP Color LaserJet 3700 series
printer)
This printer is equipped with an embedded Web server, which allows access to information
about printer and network activities. A Web server provides an environment in which web
programs may run, much in the same way that an operating system, such as Windows,
provides an environment for programs to run on your PC. The output from these programs
can then be displayed by a Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape
Navigator.
An “embedded” Web server resides on a hardware device (such as a printer) or in firmware,
rather than as software that is loaded on a network server.
The advantage of an embedded Web server is that it provides an interface to the printer that
anyone with a network-connected PC and a standard Web browser can access. There is no
special software to install or configure, but you must have a supported Web browser on your
computer. To access the embedded Web server, type the IP address for the printer in the
address line of the browser. (To find the IP address, print a configuration page. For more
information about printing a configuration page, see
Printer information pages.)
Features
The HP embedded Web server allows you to view printer and network card status and
manage printing functions from your PC. With the HP embedded Web server, you can do the
following:
view printer status information
determine the remaining life on all supplies and order new ones
view and change tray configurations
view and change the printer control panel menu configuration
view and print internal pages
receive notification of printer and supplies events
add or customize links to other Web sites
select the language in which to display the embedded Web server pages
view and change network configuration
view support content that is printer-specific and specific to the printer’s current state
