Operating the Dual Screen Features
Operation
The following sections tell you how to enter Dual Screen mode and use the dual screen
enhancements.
Entering Dual Screen Mode
To enter Dual Screen mode, press and hold down the Alt key while you press the Dual
key. The display station remains in Dual Screen mode until you execute the Alt-Dual key
sequence again or go offline. While the display station is in Dual Screen mode and is in
communication with the controller, such enhanced functions as side-by-side display,
mark/paste, and special key assignments are available.
When the display station is not in Dual Screen mode, it operates like a standard 3270
display. The display station can enter Dual Screen mode only if it has been set up as a
Mod 2, 3, or 4.
Active and Suspended Screens
Dual Screen mode permits a standard 1483 single-imaging device to simultaneously
display two host sessions. Because two or more sessions must be managed, one session
is selected as the active session and the other as the inactive or suspended session. The
active session is always displayed and, because the dual screen 1483 can concurrently
display both the active and the suspended sessions, the active session is the session that
contains the cursor. For this reason, use either a block or a blinking cursor for Dual
Screen mode.
A highlighted arrow (
or ) is displayed on the separator line at the cursor row to
help find the cursor (see Figure 9-1, below).
