Trouble Probable Cause Remedy
Repeated jamming. The transport system plates
and operator-accessible areas
are not firmly closed.
Repeat any recent jam clearing or
maintenance procedures, making
certain all plates are firmly in place
and all operator-accessible areas
are closed. Refer to “Clearing the
document path” later in this
chapter.
Documents are skewed during
feeding.
Adjust guides and feed roller.
Any imaging problem or
distortion (especially after
clearing a paper jam)
Pieces of paper may be caught
in the imaging area of the
transport.
Check and clean imaging and
transport areas for lodged pieces
of paper. Refer to Chapter 5,
“Cleaning the imaging guides”.
Clear streak on scanned
images.
There may be a foreign object in
the optical path.
Check and clean imaging guides
and transport area. Refer to
Chapter 5, “Cleaning the imaging
guides”.
Overall scanned image
density too light, too dark, or
uneven.
Dust, dirt or fingerprints on the
imaging guides.
Check and clean imaging guides.
Refer to Chapter 5, “Cleaning the
imaging guides”.
Calibration is not performed or
is not performed correctly.
Perform calibration using
instructions provided. Refer to
Chapter 2, “Calibrating the
scanner”.
Lamps are dirty or not properly
installed.
Check the lamps for proper
installation. Check for dirt or debris
in the lamp housing. Refer to
Chapter 5, “Cleaning the exposure
lamp housings”.
Calibration failure. Calibration target was skewed
when feeding.
Retry. Adjust feed tray side guides.
Adjust feed and separator roller
gap.
Document was in the transport
at the time of calibration.
Remove any documents in the
transport system. Retry. Refer to
“Clearing the document path” later
in this chapter.
Lamps are dirty or not properly
installed.
Check the lamps for proper
installation. Check for dirt or debris
in the lamp housing. Refer to
Chapter 5, “Cleaning the exposure
lamp housings”.
