Passport 4400 units are available for use with either ac or dc current, and a
redundant power supply option is available on the 5-slot models. Passport 4400
units are available in the following configurations:
4430ac, 3-slot, Ethernet interface, ac power
4450ac, 5-slot, Ethernet interface, ac power
4450dc, 5-slot, Ethernet interface, dc power
4450acR, 5-slot, Ethernet interface, ac power with redundant power
supply
4450dcR, 5-slot, Ethernet interface, dc power with redundant power
supply.
The chassis houses the modules that provide the various access services offered
by the 4400. The number of slots indicates the maximum number of modules,
including the base module, that can be supported by each unit.
Ethernet Base Module
The Ethernet Base Module performs central processing functions for the 4400.
This module must be present in the lowest slot in the unit for any of the other
modules to function.
The Ethernet Base Module includes the following:
processor and memory
serial access port
management port
AUI and 10BaseT Ethernet interfaces
optional plug-in interface modules.
Data Modules
The Passport 4400 supports two types of data modules:
High-speed Data Module
Low-Speed Data Services Modules.
The High-speed DataModule (HDM) providesadditional portcapability,identical
to Port 1 on the Ethernet Base Module. The module supports RS-232, V.35, V.36,
and X.21 interfaces, determined by the cable used. The HDM can support both
DTE and DCE modes.
