T1/E1 and Digital Voice Modules 9
T1/E1 digital voice and data is supported on the 4400 through the use of the
modules and components described below:
The T1 or E1 Voice Modules (TVM or EVM). The TVM or EVM allows
a T1 or E1 leased line or PBX to connect directly to a Passport 4400 unit.
The Digital Voice Module (DVM). The DVM is a SIMM card that is
plugged directly into the TVM. EVM or DVEM. Each DVM supports one
digital voice channel.
The Digital Voice Expansion Module (DVEM). The DVEM is an
expansion module that contains slots to support additional DVMs. To
support a full T1 or E1 link, two DVEMs in addition to the TVM or EVM
are required.
T1 and E1 Voice Modules
The T1 Voice Module provides a user interface to two 1.544 Mbps T1 lines. It can
support a Maximum of 24 Digital Voice Modules (6 on the module, the rest on
Digital Voice Expansion Modules).
The E1 Voice Module provides a user interface to two 2.048 Mbps E1 lines. It can
support a maximum of 30 Digital Voice Modules (6 on the module, the rest on
Digital Voice Expansion Modules).
Physical Description
On the left side of the module are six connectors that serve as receptacles for six
Digital Voice Modules.
Toward the left rear is the module switch group used for setting the location of
the module within the 4400. This switch group must be set for LIM B (see Figure
6-1, “Dip Switch Locations”).
