Increasing the system memory may also help. The computer has two memory slots. For memory
upgrades, use only PC2100 (DDR266) DDR-SDRAM DIMM or PC2700 (DDR333) DDR-SDRAM DIMM
modules (depending on your model). For information on installing memory, please see the section
Upgrading memory (page 77).
Another option is to defragment the hard drive. See the Windows
®
Help files for details or contact your
system administrator if you have one.
My computer or software program is not responding
If you suspect one application is locking your system, you can try to stop it, as follows:
1 Press <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Delete> simultaneously.
The Windows Task Manager screen appears.
2 Scroll down until you see an application with the status Not responding.
3 Select this application from the list and click End Task.
Windows
®
tries to close the application.
If it fails to do so, a second dialog box appears.
4 Select End Task again.
If the above method does not work or you do not know which application is locking your system, shut down
the computer, as follows:
1 Click the Start button.
2 Select Turn Off Computer, and then Turn off in the dialog box that appears.
If the above method does not work, press the power button and hold it for at least six seconds. This turns
off the power, risking the loss of unsaved data.
If your computer locks up while playing a disc, stop the disc by pressing the eject button on the disc drive,
then restart your computer.
