MAINTENANCE
Essentially,your printer is a robust piece of equipment, but shouIdbe
treatedwithamodicumofcareinorderto avoidmalfunctions.Forexample:

Keepyourprinterin a “comfortable”environment.Roughlyspeaking,if
youarecomfortable,thentheenvironmentissuitableforyourprinter,too
(seeChapter1).
Do not subjecttheprinterto physicalshocksor excessivevibration.
Avoidextremelydustyenvironments.Dustis theenemyof allprecision
mechanicaldevices.
To clean the exteriorof the printer,use a cloth barely dampenedwith
eitherwaterwith alittledetergentoralittlealcohol,butdonotallowany
liquidto fall insidethe printer.
Theinterioroftheprintermaybe cleanedwithasmallvacuumcleaneror
a compressed-airaerosol(soldfor thispurpose).Whenperformingthis
operation,be sure not to bend or damage any cable connectionsor
electroniccomponents.
REPLACING THE PRINT HEAD
Thisisnotajob whichyouwillneedtodoveryoften.Thepnnt headhasbeen
designedto last for about 100millioncharacters.In normaleverydayuse,
thistranslatestoyearsoflife.However,iftheprintqualityisfaint,evenafter
youhavechangedtheribbonoryouhaveadjustedthegapbetweentheprint
head andthe platen(see Chapter1),theprinthead willneed replacement.
Onlyuse a replacementprintheadas recommendedby yoursupplier.

Turn OFFtheprinter,andunplugthepowercord.
Removethetop coverand ribboncartridge.
Iftheprinterhasbeeninopeiationimmediatelybeforethisoperation,the
print head will be hot. Allow time for the print head to cool before
attempingto workon it.
Move the print head carriagetoward the right until you can see the
connectorcover.Removethe connectorcover and pull the cablefree
fromtheconnector.
Unscrewthetwo screwsthatholdtheprinthead in pIaceandset them
aside.
