Whywould youwantto do that? If youhave a programcontainingmany
<ESC>K commandsand want to switchto double-densitycESC> L, it
couldmeanchanginga lotof commands.It’seasierto sendonecommand
thatchangesthe densityfor cESC>K instead.
To changea command’snormaldensityyousendthiscommand:

Forc yousubstitutewhichevercommandidentifieryouwantto change(K,
L,YorZ). Andformyouenterthemodenumberofthenewdensityyouwant
thatcommandto have,from thetableabove.
5.6.5 Nine-pingraphics
The
StarLaserPrinter4 readilyacceptsanotherFX-850graphicscommand,
fornine-pingraphics.Allthegraphicscommandsdiscussedso farinvolve
eight-dotlines, butthe FX-850offersthiscommandbecauseits printhead
actuallyhasninepins.TheFX-850usesit to drawanotherlineof dotsand
speedup theprinting.
Thenine-pingraphicscommand,however,doesnotaffectyourStarLaser-
Printer4’s speed.
Unliketheeight-dotcommands,thisnine-dotcommandneedstwobytesfor
eachcolumnofdata:onebyteforthetopeightpins,plusoneforthebottom
pin.Thoughonlythemostsignificantbit is actuallyusedfromthe second
byte,youhaveto sendthewholething:
