These incrementsreflectthe history of twentiethcenturyprinting.Pitch,
referringtothenumberofcharactemprintedineachhorizontalinch,derives
fromhowtypewritersspacetheircharactem.Lines andcolumnswerefirst
usedby earliercomputerprintem(on whichtheyare calledhorizontaland
verticalmotionindexes).Youalreadyknowaboutthe StarLaserPrinter4
beingableto print 300dotsto the inch.Andthe unitby whichtypesetters
havemeasuredtextfor centuriesis thepoint, about l/72nd of an inch.
Onehint aboutmovingtheprintposition:youcan confuseyourselfif you
usemomthanoneortwodifferentunitsduringthesamesession.Sodecide
beforehand how accurately you need to move the print position (not
forgettinganygraphicsyou wantto include).Then stickto theunit(s)you
choose.
