7.6 Port Security
When a computer accesses a port on the switch, the MAC address of that computer is entered in the MAC address
table of that port. Port Security allows you to restrict the number of MAC addresses residing in a port. For example,
if a dummy extension hub is attached to a port on the switch, you can set up the port to allow only two users to
access. Use the port security window to set the parameters.
Step 1. Specify a number from one to 127 in the Max Allowed MAC Address Count Per Port field to set the
maximum MAC address for all ports.
Figure 7-6 Web Configurator – Port Security
To restrict the number of MAC address of a port, you must do the following:
Step 2. Select Enable for that port. If the Enable checkbox is not selected, there is no MAC address count
restriction for that port.
Step 3. Type the number in the Max Allowed MAC Address Count field for each individual port. This number
should be smaller than Max Allowed MAC Address Count Per Port.
Step 4. Click Apply.
Step 5. Used Count field tells you how many MAC address are residing in the corresponding port now.
A trunked port is not allowed to enable the port security option.
